meara o'reilly shows us what happens when you pour some salt onto an electronically charged, metal plate and sing into it. the vibrations of her voice effect the salt, which in turn creates the patterns you see in the video. it's truly amazing to watch. meara is currently composing songs based on how the salt reacts as she sings. chladni singing was discovered in the late 18th century by ernst chladni, a german musician and physicist.
