somewhere trailer
written and directed by sofia coppola
i had the opportunity to see this film a couple of months ago with sofia present, which was quite a treat. okay, so there are many similar themes and elements at play in somewhere that hearken back to sofia's previous films; identity crisis, alienation, solitude, longing, introspection. the movie focuses in on stephen dorff's character, a washed up actor who is drifting through life with a wildly aimless, juvenile abandon. elle fanning, who is amazing in this film, plays dorff's self reliant, smart beyond her years daughter. as with sofia's other films and the main reason why i like her as a filmmaker, is that she gives you some space to think as you watch, a chance to reflect upon your own life; her films are evocative. i don't want to say too much since this movie hasn't been released yet but i'll say this-there are some really nice moments in somewhere and again, miss fanning's performance is spectacular. the song in the trailer is by the strokes and happens to accompany my favorite scene in the entire movie. good song, good scene.
